Calendula is a medicinal plant. Vulnerary (promotes wound healing), anti-inflammatory, immune-modulating, antibacterial, antifungal, microbial and demulcent.
There are many ways to employ this medicinal herb; it can be consumed as a tea, use as a mouth gargle, as a topical wash or as an anti-inflammatory ingredient in DIY skincare recipes.
Some of the most common applications and uses are:
- Drink as a tea to relieve gum, throat, peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux or gastrointestinal inflammation.
- Use as a wash to relief itches and rashes. Calendula tea is an effective wash to soothe and relief itches and skin rashes, especially for soothing eczema itch, milk rashes, and diaper rashes for children and bedridden individuals.
- Use calendula tea as a wash to reduce inflammation, prevent skin infection and to promote wound healing.
- Use calendula tea as a mouth gargle to relieve gum infection and mouth ulcers.
- Infused calendula herb with carrier oil for topical use or add to DIY body care recipes.
Note:
For topical, gargle or washing application, brew calendula tea and let it cool to room temperature before use. People who are allergic to members of the Aster family may also have a reaction to calendula. If you know you are allergic to chamomile (belongs to the Aster family), treat calendula with caution.

This helps my ulcers in the mouth to heal faster. I have mouth ulcers regularly growing up and have to endure the pain and discomfort until I discovered this calendular flower tea. I am a big fan since then. I also drink it when I feel discomfort in the throat and it soothes and prevent sore throat for me.
